    1. Take 1 chow chow
    2. Take 2 green chillies
    3. Get 1/2 onion
    4. Get 2 garlic cloves
    5. Make ready 2 tablespoons oil
    6. Take 1/2 tablespoons mustard seeds
    7. Make ready 1/2 tablespoons urad dhal
    8. Get 3 spoons soaked channa dhal
    9. Get 1/2 cup grated coconut

    First clean the Chayote squash and peel them. Cut them into half and take out the seed from the middle with a help of a spoon. Chow chow dal - in which the juicy pear-like chayote softens and melds into dal, adding an interesting counterpoint to the legume's porridge-iness. Chow Chow Kulambu, sounds completely different, as chow-chow is used commonly for preparing stir-fry and kootu.


    Instructions

    Instructions to make Chayote/ chow chow fry:

    1. Take a pan and add oil, mustard seeds and urad dhal, then add chana dhal. Add onions and garlic cloves, green chillies finely chopped. Fry it till it's cooked.
    2. You can pressure cook the chopped chow chow for 2 whistles or boil in a pan separately for 15 min. Add the boiled chow chow to the mix, said in step 1. Cook for 5 min in medium flame. Then add grated coconut.
    3. Cook it in medium flame for 2 more minutes. Now it's ready to serve. You can have this with rice, chapati, roti.

    Chayote Squash is known as Chow Chow in Tamil. This recipe is a side dish cooked South Indian style with coconut and mild spices. Chow-Chow Kothamalli Chutney Recipe - Chayote Coriander Chutney.
