    Ingredients

    The ingredients needed to make chicken sausage pasta:

    1. Get 6 oz pasta
    2. Take 2 tbsp minced garlic
    3. Take 2 green onions, chopped
    4. Prepare 2 tbsp fresh chopped basil
    5. Get 1/4 cup fresh chopped tomatoes
    6. Get 1/4 cup each of chopped red bell pepper, orange bell pepper, as well as yellow bell pepper
    7. Get 2 each Johnsonville fully cooked italian style chicken sausage (comes in package of 4 links)
    8. Prepare 1 cup swiss cheese
    9. Get 1/2 cup asiago/parmesan blend
    10. Prepare 1 1/2 cup basic white sauce with added pinch rosemary, thyme, salt & pepper, 1 teaspoon roasted garlic salt, 1 tablespoon minced garlic & 1 tablespoon fresh chopped basil. (these ingredients are not part of main recipe)

    We're adding bell peppers and tomato sauce for veggies. Italian chicken sausage for lean protein. And whole wheat pasta fuels our bodies with whole grains. This recipe starts with browned Italian chicken sausage and mixes it with tender broccoli florets and fusilli pasta.


    Instructions

    Steps to make chicken sausage pasta:

    1. preheat oven to 400.
    2. put pasta water on to boil, when it does so add pasta.
    3. put a splash olive oil & 1 tablespoon of minced garlic in a deep saucepan on medium heat.
    4. cut bell peppers & green onions, add to saucepan.
    5. season vegetables in sauce pan with salt & pepper to taste. roasted garlic salt & 1 tablespoon of fresh chopped basil.
    6. cut each of the 2 sausage links into thin slices, add to saucepan.
    7. cook until sausage starts to brown, when it does add white sauce & put on low heat.
    8. put cooked pasta into a small baking dish, 8x8? or similar will work.
    9. sprinkle half of the swiss cheese on the pasta, as well as half of the asiago/parmesan blend.
    10. pour sausage & white sauce mixture over the pasta then sprinkle all of the remaining cheeses on top.
    11. sprinkle fresh chopped tomatoes & remaining basil on top.
    12. bake at 400 for 15 minutes then broil at 500 for 7 minutes.
    13. BE AWARE I never write anything down or properly measure anything when I cook. so all the measurements are approximate! you may need to make adjustments for your own taste. I did my very best to guess how much i used. also tonight was my first time cooking this dish, using mostly leftover stuff thrown together. it was quick easy & delicious in my opinion! I say 4 servings if you have a side dish, we had it with green salad & slice of garlic sourdough toast.

    Then that's all mixed with a simple creamy Parmesan sauce made by simmering cream with sautéed onions, grated Parmesan cheese, and a little bit of the pasta cooking water. Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, drizzle oil and sear chicken sausage until golden. Add the peppers, onions and garlic and season with salt and pepper. Add chicken and sausage to skillet and brown both lightly until they are opaque.
